perfectly round
flies through the air
skips once...twice…three times
water ripples
vibrations sending out
current to the duckling
too far behind
giving a little push
mama gets babies out of the way
for boy
to grab dog collar
of feisty young puppy
whose feet haven’t learned how to swim
puppy and boy
dirty and wet
happily home for supper
